Artificial grass laid over a base that drains

Artificial turf installation gives you a lawn that stays green through a San Antonio summer. You may know it as artificial grass or fake grass, and it is all the same product. We install two grades, an entry turf and a thicker, denser premium turf. Both go down over a prepped base that drains.

Artificial Turf Installation Starts With the Base

A turf lawn depends on the ground under it, so base prep comes first. We take out the old grass and build a firm, packed base. The turf is rolled out only after that base is smooth and solid. The finished lawn takes its shape from that base.

Drainage is part of the base work. We grade the base so rain has a place to go. Turn a piece of turf over and you will see holes in the backing. Rain drains through those holes and into the base.

Then the turf goes down. A lawn wider than one piece of turf needs a seam, so we join the pieces into one surface. Edging holds the border on straight runs and on curves. It also keeps gravel beds on their side of the line.

Artificial Grass Installation in Two Grades of Turf

We install two grades of turf. The entry turf is the starting grade. The premium turf is thicker and denser, with more blades packed into every patch. The difference shows when the two sit side by side.

Both grades get the same base prep and drainage. The grade changes how the lawn looks and feels. The work under it stays the same.

Ask to see both grades before you choose. Feel the blades on each one and look at the backing. You can also look through photos of our jobs.

Where Does Artificial Turf in San Antonio Make Sense?

Start with the sun. Summers here are long and hot, and turf in direct sun gets hot too. Notice where the afternoon shade falls before you pick the spot. A fence or the house itself can shade part of a lawn for the hottest hours.

Then think about water. In San Antonio, SAWS watering rules follow the level of the Edwards Aquifer. In drought stages 1 through 3, sprinklers may run only once a week, on a day set by your address. Artificial turf stays green without a watering day.

Turf also fits narrow spots where grass struggles, like a long strip along a privacy fence. It can run up to a paver patio, with stepping stones set into the lawn. It can also finish the yard around a composite deck. We build both, so ask about them at your estimate.

FAQ

Artificial Turf Questions, Answered

Common questions about artificial turf across the San Antonio to Austin corridor. If yours is not here, call or text and ask.

Call (512) 905-8038

How much does artificial turf installation cost?
The price depends on the size of the area and the grade of turf you pick. The base work your yard needs counts too. We give free estimates, and financing is available on larger projects. Call or text (512) 905-8038 for yours.
Does artificial turf in San Antonio get hot in summer?
Yes, it does, and San Antonio averages 18 days a year at 100 degrees or hotter. A university turfgrass scientist reports artificial turf surfaces can reach 174 degrees on the hottest summer days. Natural turf stays closer to 102 degrees. On a hot afternoon, check the surface with your hand before bare feet or paws go on it.
Does artificial turf drain when it rains?
Yes. The turf backing is perforated, and water drains through those holes into the base below. We grade and pack the base first, so the water has a place to go. Ask any turf installers you call how they prep the base.
Can my HOA stop me from installing fake grass?
That depends on your HOA's own rules, so read them first. Texas Property Code section 202.007 keeps an HOA from banning drought-resistant landscaping or water-conserving natural turf. That section does not mention artificial turf, and it lets an HOA ask to see a plan first. Get your HOA's approval in writing before you schedule an install.
How much upkeep does artificial turf need?
Artificial turf is low maintenance. It does not need mowing, and it does not need a watering day. Leaves and dust still land on it, so plan to clear it off now and then.
Do your turf installers work outside San Antonio?
Yes. We are based in San Antonio and work the San Antonio to Austin corridor. That takes in Hill Country towns like Boerne and Bulverde, plus I-35 cities like New Braunfels and San Marcos. Call or text (512) 905-8038 and we will tell you if we cover your address.
